“Unidentified, Flying, O” is a visual-text installation which documents the intimacy of ritual, and mediated distance. Utilizing 3D animation and poetry, this project is a visual and aural investigation into the temporality of touch, the expansiveness of connection, and the ritual containers we build for ourselves in order to navigate an everyday life both surreal and mundane. This past year, we have been prevented from seeing or touching one another. But, in our own ways, we have continued to practice the intimacy of connection through strange touchscreen devices that have virtualized the realities in which our cultural consciousness is harboured. Despite gaps of physical disconnect, we imagine into existence and subsequently navigate new emotional modalities for virtualizing intimacy. We move within these realms because they awaken different configurations of how we can achieve affinity and closeness. They actively refine our senses to what is untouchable yet familiar.
